Peru is most famous for its Inca civilization and the archaeological Machu Picchu site in the Sacred Valley. However, you will NOT find iconic images of that site nor any other famous places such as Saqsawaman, Lake Titicaca, and other here. This gallery has a collection of photos from several areas of this amazing country Peru. It starts off in the city of Juliaca while it was the center of antigovernment protests in the province of Puno (the protests were nationwide). After Juliaca, you will see images from Moquegua, Cerro Baul, Puno, Chucuito, and Lima.

Juliaca is a city of about three hundred thousand (300000) Native Americans located about forty (40) kilometers from the Lake Titicaca and tourist attraction Puno and Uros islands. The street strikes were organized by various indigenous movements and local human and native rights organizations, as well as some communist groups in the area, to protest the unfair trade agreements proposed by the World Trade Organization (WTO), World Bank and supported by the pro-western Peruvian government of Alan Garcia and numerous corporations and big business enterprises. The center of the protests in Juliaca was in the regional airport where the demonstrators would later march to support the professors who were already there. Very few tourists visit the streets of Juliaca, Peru. The streets to the regional airport in Juliaca, Peru (near Lake Titicaca and in the heart of the altiplano South American Andes) were covered with broken grass bottles and boulders and smaller rocks. The Andean textiles are exchanged at the weekend market here. The countrywide strike in Peru in the summer of 2007 was a huge event. People from all layers of live participated to the extent of their abilities. These two sisters were only onlookers while the people on the streets were marching towards the regional airport in Juliaca, Peru. the city is close to the tourist city of Puno, which is located on the shores of Lake Titicaca and Uros Islands. The protest was conducted to express dissatisfaction by indigenous organizers of the altiplano, local communist party, and unions to protest the newly proposed trade agreements with industrialized nations. The ruling Alan Garcia government, World Bank, multi-national corporations, and World Trade Organization proposed the agreements. Digital image post-processed for web presentation. In front of the main gate of the regional airport in Puno Department of this altiplano area of Juliaca, Peru, the street was blocked by police and military special forces check point. The professors who occupied the airport were kicked out earlier in the day and at present treated the event as a community gathering and a chance to catch up with other professors. Some residents of Juliaca gathered in front of the check point for a chat. What was interesting in this south Andean area of South America is that the protests are taken seriously and all forms of profiting is stopped for fear of property destruction and in solidarity with the protesters. The primary festivities of the pre-Colombian cultures (Inca, Huari, Nazca, Paracas) were revolving around the sun gods and harvest season. The native tailor in this city of Juliaca, Peru, makes costumes that are a combination of indigenous religions and Spanish craft. The Andean religions of the Native Americans forefathers still live in present day Peru. the tradition of working the wool of llamas, alpacas, vicunas, and sheep to create beautiful textiles is passed down the generations over the oppressive Spanish rule of the past four hundred (400) years. It is particularly evident in areas where the western ideas had time and force to seep into the people’s psyche. It is especially clear in the younger generation of Peruvians. Many refuse (or unable to buy) to wear traditional pre-Colombian clothes and costumes in favor of western brands and styles.
